Artist's notes
Only the males have such handsome black plumage and they congregate on traditional display grounds (leks) to compete for mates. This they do by strutting their stuff, heads pointed upwards and wing and tail feathers fanned. They also have an unusual vocalization during the display, including a sound like a bottle being uncorked.
